Martin Gay Black Marks

Martin Gay Black Marks Martin Gay Black MARKS, son of John Lawrence and Catherine (Webber) MARKS, was born on 21 Sep 1859 in Ship Harbour, Halifax, NS, Canada. He was a Lumber Merchant in 1887 at the time of his marriage and at the time of the various children's baptisms he was listed as a fisherman.

Martin was working as a stevadore on the docks when he was killed on 6 Dec 1917 in the Halifax harbour explosion. His body was recovered, after three days of searching the warehouses where bodies were taken, by his wife Katherine and son Martin. It was removed to Ship Harbour where he was buried on 13 Dec 1917 in St. Stephen's Church Cemetery, Ship Harbour, NS.

He was married to Katherine Caroline QUINN (daughter of John QUINN and Hannah GRANT) on 6 Jul 1887 in Halifax, Halifax, NS, Canada. They were married by license with witnesses of John PATRIDGE and Clara MITCHELL. Reverend Thomas Patridge, Church of England officiated.

Katherine Caroline QUINN was born on 31 Aug 1860 in Grindstone, Magdalene Islands, PQ, Canada. She was christened on 15 Feb 1863 in Grosse Ile, Magdalene Islands, PQ, Canada. Sponsors were Joanna FURLONG and Richard FURLONG. She died on 8 Nov 1941 in Ship Harbour, Halifax, NS, Canada. She was buried on 11 Nov 1941 in St. Stephen's Church Cemetery next to her husband.
