To identify family lines, we took each son in each family that had sons to carry forward the family name.  Johann Balthasar had four sons with known or reported (not substantiated) sons. Each of these sons had sons.  However, with Lorenz we went one generation further to his grandsons.  Below are the color lines used to identify descendants.

(Red line) Lawrence was born and died in Ship Harbour, NS.  m. Catherine Webber in 1857. (Blue line)

Johann Heinrick was born in Jakobsweiler, Germany and died in Edgefield, SC.  m. Maria Elizabeth Schildknecht (Shellnut). (Pink line) Johann Jacob was born in Jakobsweiler, Germany.  No record of Jacob after arriving in SC.  People in East Tennessee have claimed to be descendents. (Violet line)

It has not been proven that the GREEN line is descendent from Johann Conrad Merck.   
George Henry was born in Edgefield, SC and died in Jackson, GA.  m. Elizabeth Ann Langley in 1820, 2nd Martha Ann (Aikien) Elrod in 1865. (Green line)
